The Society of St. George, Burnley

The Society of St George, Burnley is an independent, friendly society founded in Burnley, Lancashire on 26th January 1939.
 

The Society is a friendly society whose primary aim is to celebrate England and Englishness without prejudice. We are not affiliated to or directly connected with any other similar organisation, or any political

party.

 

The Objects of the Society are:

  • To propagate that spirit of allegiance to the Crown and Constitution that same demands of all true Englishmen.
  • To imbue that pride of birth shall be manifest in all our Members, who in turn shall be true Englishmen. 
  • To work for the uplifting, welfare and betterment of all Englishmen, and in particular the Members of the Society of St. George, Burnley

The Society has, almost from its inception, carried out charitable work in the local community and many organisations, institutions and individuals have benefited from the fund raising activities of its Members. All funds raised are used to assist good causes and charities in the local area.

 

The Society’s main event each year is the St. George’s Day dinner on 23rd April. This has long been recognised as a prestigious event and is attended by a number of local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Burnley.

 

The Society of St. George has been a part of Burnley’s history for over seventy years and continues to uphold its objects and to carry out its charitable work on behalf of local good causes.
